Anyone with a chainsaw can hack limbs off. Pruning properly means knowing which cuts a tree can heal, how much canopy it can lose in one go and where the branch collar sits. Prune wrong and you get dieback, decay and a tree that's more dangerous in five years than it is today.
We prune to AS 4373 (the Australian Standard for amenity tree pruning), which is also what council requires for protected vegetation.

Common questions.
What's the difference between pruning and lopping?
Lopping usually means indiscriminate cuts through branches wherever is convenient, which stresses the tree and causes regrowth that's weakly attached. Proper pruning cuts back to unions and the branch collar so the tree seals the wound. People search for both, so we use both words, but the work we do is pruning to the Australian Standard.
How much of a tree can you remove at once?
As a rule of thumb, no more than around 10 to 15 percent of the live canopy in one prune for a mature tree. More than that stresses the tree and triggers epicormic regrowth. If a tree needs more than that removed, we'll talk you through the options honestly.
Is pruning cheaper than removal?
Almost always, and it keeps the shade, privacy and value a mature tree adds to your block. If someone has quoted you a removal, it's worth getting our opinion on whether a prune would solve the problem.
